Looks like the running up and down plus the hot weather in Malaysia is taking the toll on me. I think maybe I might have caught the virus from baby, then again it may just be a simple flu virus. Whatever it is, I’m not feeling too good with sore throat and perhaps a slight fever. Took two Paracetamol tablets and a Chinese sore throat thick syrup and hope for the best for this virus to blow itself over. Baby is still recovering from his reosolar virus, although there was no more fever, he got a raspy Rod Stevert voice. I’m not sure if my ailment is related since Reosolar only strikes infants, then again with the world going to the dogs what with extreme weather condition and greedy politicians, it might just be the end times getting nearer. Anyway can’t do anything about world events as it plays itself out. We just have to do our little part and take care of ourselves since family is still dependent on Lena and I staying healthy.

This image of space shuttle Atlantis was taken shortly after the rotating service structure was rolled back at Launch Pad 39A, Thursday, July 7, 2011. Atlantis is set to liftoff today, Friday, July 8, at 11:26 a.m. EDT on the final flight of the Space Shuttle Program.
Watch the launch as it happens on NASA.gov.
Today is yellow shirt day. I wonder what will happen. Will the police stop me? Mine do not have the #Bersih (Clean) words / logo in support of clean and fair election. Big hohaa by the powers-to-be but nevertheless a very important day. Not attending the rally but will walk around in yellow in distant support.
Wow! Following twitter updates on the #bersih rally. Big turnout! Estimate probably 50k. Could be 100k strong! PDRM and FRU trying to scatter the assembly. Also noted police brutality, firing of tear gas, water canon, trying to disperse crowd from marching to Stadium Negara.
The purpose of the #bersih 2.0 rally is to support for clean and fair election. It is not a political movement. And yet the Government saw it fit to make excuses to not allow for the simple rally and give poor reasons against it despite the Agung (King) saying it is ok to have rally in Stadium Negara. Then behind the lines on a conspiracy theory, the government must have advise the Stadium Management not to allow the gathering plus the Police not to approve the gathering permit. It shows the govt don’t want fair election so that they can hang on to power.
Sigh! As they said, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

It was also a test of law. Police said 5,000 to 6,000 turn out because they were successful to prevent people entering the city. But one look at the photo you know it was 10 times more! Easily 50,000 supporters came! Police even challenged that no manhandling of demonstrators and if there were any to make police report so they will investigate when clearly there were many injured from police brutality based on the many eyewitness account, but none will dare to make the report because they in turn will be charged for attending the rally for illegal assembly.
The reporting by Star newspaper is rather lopsided and didn’t provide much detail of the happening as this paper is controlled by the current ruling coalition. Reading the alternate news media, Malaysiakini news version yielded much more details. The rally was peaceful but it was the authorities that caused the chaos. In fact the Bersih people and the opposing Umno Youth Patriot people organized themselves not to clash and cause trouble.
Anyway, it is done. The news has spread, but unfortunately it will not be reported properly by the local papers. Since not every Malaysian has access to internet or or those who do will know where to find the URL to read online the alternate media, and have information to make an informed decision. I know of some people who just read the printed government control newspaper only so their viewpoint would be rather skewed.
Hopefully this rally would spread the awareness of apparent lack of cooperation from the government saying one thing but doing another which on the grass root level many people know and felt it but has not voiced out until now.

Did Bill Gates gets it right? Nope the attribution is wrong. Sometimes a message gets circulate and people start to modify it. The actual author is Charles J. Sykes. And there are 14 rules in his article. It is a good read about learning. The school of hard knocks is much tougher than the education system. And with the Government messing around with the education system making them easier to pass to cater for the intellectually challenged you only get graduates that are not worth their salt and also pulling down the brighter ones too.
Anyway this is still a good read and food for thought too!

Unfortunately, there are some things that children should be learning in school, but don’t. Not all of them have to do with academics. As a modest back-to-school offering, here are some basic rules that may not have found their way into the standard curriculum.
Rule No. 1: Life is not fair. Get used to it. The average teen-ager uses the phrase, “It’s not fair” 8.6 times a day. You got it from your parents, who said it so often you decided they must be the most idealistic generation ever. When they started hearing it from their own kids, they realized Rule No. 1.

Salt is certainly useful. Amazing salt and its magical uses article which pop into my inbox provide an interesting list of what it could do. Throughout the ages salt has been used to preserved food and due to its rarity in olden times, was very valuable. It was even used as payment to soldiers during Roman times hence the saying “worth his salt” if a person is really invaluable.
The uses listed here are many and I do say I have use it on some of the application. Can’t vouch for all that is listed here. Salt is also good at killing bacteria and can be used for ulcers although it would be very painful to use! Well if you can find Bonjela then as a last resort use salt as the remedy. It is also recommended for sore throat where you gargle a very thick concoction of salty water for gargling.
How useful is this list? Well not sure, so read it with a pinch of salt!

The recent unethical used of Plasticizers in food such as DOP by the Taiwanese Food manufacturer has caused government health officials to have stringent checks on food manufacturers here in Malaysia. The list of prohibited plasticizers below are by no means complete.
Actually there are many more types and variety of industrial plasticizers than those listed down here. Since these are the ones that they are checking, my guess is that these are more easily obtainable in the market and lower cost. The purpose of plasticizer is to make materials softer and more pliable.
Materials such as rubber, plastic and even cement use plasticizer to change their properties. Why add plasticizer in food? The reason for adding it illegally to food and drinks as a substitute for the more expensive emulsifier such as palm oil.
Plasticizer are not meant to be consumed as some are carcinogenic and others cause other kinds of health issues including low sperm counts and birth defects. The most common plasticizer used is DOP (dioctyl phthalate) for use in the rubber and plastic industry.
When too much plasticizer is used, the oil actually migrate to the surface of the material which they call it blooming. If you own a sports watch that uses rubberized strap (usually made from Polyurathane (PU) polymers or poly vinyl chloride (PVC) rather than synthetic rubber), and if you haven’t been using it for awhile, you will notice a layer of oil on the surface. Frequent usage will rub off the oil so you don’t see the sticky muck, only when you are not wearing your watch for a prolonged period, the oil can be seen as it was not rubbed off from usage.
Anyway these are the 16 plasticizers prohibited by the local government here listed using the common abbreviated short name and their full long name. Sometimes there are alternate names due to the way a chemical molecule is named since there are many ways to name it based on the carbon-hydrogen chain and branching along the molecular structure. Chemistry can be tough subject to master!
1) DEHP - Bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (alternate names: BEHP and di-2-ethyl hexyl phthalate)
2) DINP - diisononyl phthalate
3) DMP - di methyl phthalate
4) DEP - Diethyl phthalate
5) DBP - dibutyl phthalate or Bis(n-butyl) phthalate (alternate names: Di-n-butyl phthalate, Butyl phthalate, n-Butyl phthalate, 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid dibutyl ester, o-Benzenedicarboxylic acid dibutyl ester, DBP, Palatinol C, Elaol)
6) DPP – diphenyl phthalate
7) DHXP – di-iso-hexyl phthalate
8) DNP – dinonyl phthalate
9) DIBP – Diisobutyl phthalate (alternate names: Diisobutyl ester of phthalic acic, Bis(2-methoxypropyl)ester,1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, Di(isobutyl)-1,2-benzenedicarboxylate, DIBP, DiBP, Palatinol IC)
10) DCHP – dicyclohexyl phthalate
11) DNOP – Di-n-octyl phthalate
12) BBP – n-buytl benzyl phthalate or benzyl butyl phthalate (BBzP)
13) DMEP – dimethoxyethyl phthalate
14) DEEP – diethyl ehtylphophonate
15) DBEP – dibutoxyethyl phthalate
16) BMPP – 4-benzoyl-3-methyl-1-phenyl-5-pyra-zolone

It’s baby day out again! Today after church, we decided to head down to Aeon Jusco in Bukit Tinggi, Klang. Since my wife and mom-in-law has not been to this part of town. It was an opposite direction away from the big city of KL. Still this Aeon Klang is considered the biggest mall under Aeon managment. While we there the weekend crowd was there and there was a sale going. My wife was delighted to find the groceries in Jusco here were on promotion and thus cheaper. She filled the trolley with baby diapers, rice, and other essential groceries. It was overflowing! And baby had a gala time looking around taking in all the sights and surrounding activities. It was way past his nap time and yet he still wanted to keep going keeping awake not wanting to sleep! In the fatigue took over and he couldn’t fight the sandman anymore. Carried him over to the car baby seat and he promptly fell into a deep tired sleep! Good day for all of us including baby!

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; they become your destiny.

Received this pamphlet as I arrived the Church and published there was the origin of Happy Father’s Day. It seems this is the most verifiable history of Father’s Day. Makes for an interesting read during the church sermon. And no, Father’s day was not invented by the greeting cards publisher to set aside another day beside the Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day to sell us more greeting cards and make more money!
